A female accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a recorded message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the court was told communication data and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered investigations and is still open.

'I Don't Want Money'

One phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine had been, but I know what I feel."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to know," the message continued.

The panel was advised that through emails, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who compiled the data, advised the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."

That day Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will continue and I will prove my claim."

The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in December 2024.

Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted through messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the period preceding the trip to that location, that area, in that winter.

The court was told correspondence between the two accused, in that autumn, discussing trying to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We must take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the trip to their home, the defendant dispatched a communication which expressed: "We're currently sat near the McCanns' house with our headlights off like investigators. I desired to do this with another person I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
