A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season present a multitude of pursuits far superior than checking the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using meditation skills to not yelling at family members. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements emerged over the break, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop further production. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
